Help is on the way!

This morning I was studying Exodus Chapter 18 where Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, observed him and saw how Moses would judge the people. Moses would judge the people from dusk to dawn. Moses had so much on his plate. Jethro was able to observe and offer guidance. Jethro pretty much told Moses (I am paraphrasing), if you continue to do this you’re going to wear yourself out. This is way too much for one person to handle. You cannot be everything for everybody. The people would come to Moses when they had issues and Moses would guide them by the statues of God. Moses led two-million out of Egypt, can you imagine being the only “judge” to all two-million?

Jethro watched Moses all day and night and told Moses, look you have to get some help. If you continue doing this on your own, you WILL wear away.

Exodus 18:18
18 Both you and these people who are with you will surely wear yourselves out. For this thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself.

There are so many situations where we are everything to everyone. Moses probably didn’t know he needed help in that situation, God sent Jethro to show him. Sometimes we are just so busy getting the work done that we forget we have people around us who can help.

More importantly, we think we have to handle all of our issues on our own but we have a God who wants to carry all of our burdens. There’s nothing you’re going through that God doesn’t want to help you with. There’s nothing too small or a worry too little that God doesn’t want to hold. Life can be hard, and we think we can handle things on our own, but we can’t.

Father God, I thank you for being so good. You’ve made so many ways, and have kept me from dangers seen and unseen. I am so happy that I can call you Father. Father I ask that you continue to guide your people. I ask that you enlighten your leaders, show them how to delegate their tasks, as their is bigger work to be done. Show them the people you have assigned to them for help and for relief. Father, if they need more help, please send them the right people to help them. We often carry so much unnecessary weight. Remind us to give it all to you. Remind us that you care and that you want to help. Give us strength to ask for help when we need it. If we don’t know we need help, please show us the areas where you can help us. I love you Father! Amen

  1. Amen! We live in a world where independence is admired, but God has always intended for us to depend on Him. It isn’t always easy but is a key to living an unburdened, more joyful life.
